How to win the lost war? Croverns, the warriors of the nonhumanoid civilization, had already destroyed some planets, that were colonized by human race. They had also defeated the space fleet of the Earth in the battle near Glock planet. Extraterrestrial technologies noticeably surpass the human ones and the cruelty of the enemy horrifies even the worldly-wise sergeants of assault troops. But the worst is that neither the simple soldiers, the real heroes of this novel, nor the intelligence officers are able to comprehend the aims of croverns, subjecting the hard-won planets to climoclasmus global biospherical reconstruction.

Serge van Grimm, the corporal of the assault troops, and Ewert Waldo, the captain of the secret service, are up to the task of understanding the psychology and logic behind enemy plans and are about to enter the negotiations with croverns. Toward this end they meet the past of humanity on an unremarkable croverns' planet...

The "Consul of Commonwealth" is one of the most thrilling SF-novels, published in Russia in 2002.
